Scenario :  When using SharePoint 2013 Multi Tenant environment you may come across multiple issue. Below are very important and commons issue I have troubleshoot till date.

Issue 1 : When users try to access SKYdrive and Newsfeed. Get below error message:
Error : Exception occurred loading user profile (/mysite/default.aspx): System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null.  Parameter name: userProfileApplicationProxy

Solution:
Here the site subscription is not added to the tenant site. To resolve the issue we need to follow below steps:

$sub = get-spsitesubscription “yourGUID”;
$site = get-spsite “https://youronedrivesite.yourdomain.com/personal/user”
set-spsite -identity $site -SiteSubscription $sub

Issue 2 : When users try to add app to their SharePoint site. they get below error:
Error : “apps are turned off if you know who runs the server tell them to enable apps”

Solution:
Every Tenant Admin will require a new App Catalog. It is different from app catalog created in central admin(Make sure Self site creation is enabled in order for App Catalog to get created)

$Sub = Get-SPSiteSubscription http://hhmodeSite (This CMDlet will help in fetching the subscription ID of the HH mode site collection)
Set-SPAppSiteSubscriptionName -Name “Name for Subscription” -SiteSubscription $Sub

We need to run the above command in order to set the unique name for domain under which these apps will run.More details can be found under http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219503.aspx

Issue: How to check which Active Directory OU is assigned to which Site Collection

Solution :
Normally you can see the details of each site collection using below:
Get-SPSiteSubscription –Identity http://hosted-site-URL

If you want to see details of all tenant at once, try below:
– In “Your_Tenant_Profiles_Service_ProfileDB” run below query

SELECT TOP 1000 [CanonicalMySitePortalUrl],[SynchronizationOU]
FROM [Your_Tenant_Profiles_Service_ProfileDB].[dbo].[Tenants]

Microsoft has released SharePoint 2013 Cumulative Update in August 2014.

Its per-requisites is either Sharepoint 2013 SP1. It is said that it can work on Sharepoint 2013 March PU as well, but we face lot of issue with just March PU so I would recommend install August update after SP1.

All are available by clicking the same Hotfix Download Available link in the KB article for the release.

For Sharepoint foundation you need 477596_intl_x64_zip.exe(44.5 mb)

Download SharePoint Foundation 2013 August 2014 CU

 

For Sharepoint server you need setup 477586_intl_x64_zip.exe(293 mb)

Download SharePoint server 2013 August 2014 CU

 

For Project server you need setup 477597_intl_x64_zip.exe(153 mb)

Download Project server 2013 August 2014 CU

 

For Office Web App you need setup 477601_intl_x64_zip.exe(808 mb)

Download Office web App server 2013 August 2014 CU

Once the updated are downloaded, you need run the main setup file ubersrv.exe file, you will be able to extract and install the update:

Follow the same steps on all SharePoint servers in farm. Now run SharePoint PSconfig wizard on all servers.

Microsoft has released another SharePoint 2013 Cumulative Update in September 2014. Let me help you know how we can install  September 2014 on Sharepoint 2013 server.

Its per-requisites is either Sharepoint 2013 SP1 or Sharepoint 2013 March PU.

Now the most important part is how to install SharePoint server September 2014 Cumulative Update.

Previous releases of the SharePoint Server 2013 cumulative update included both the executable and the .CAB file in the same self-extracting executable download. Because of the file size, the SharePoint Server 2013 package has been divided into several separate downloads. One contains the executable file, while the others contain the CAB file. All are necessary and must be placed in the same folder to successfully install the update. All are available by clicking the same Hotfix Download Available link in the KB article for the release.

Download SharePoint Foundation 2013 September 2014 CU

 

Now here the twist starts, SharePoint 2013 update has 3 setup files “478313_intl_x64_zip.exe” (790 mb) , 478311_intl_x64_zip.exe (1.16 gb) and 478312_intl_x64_zip.exe (1.30 gb): You can download this from:

Project server 2013 update has 3 setup files “478316_intl_x64_zip.exe (1.1 gb)” , “478315_intl_x64_zip.exe (1.1 gb)” and “478314_intl_x64_zip.exe (1.2 gb)”: You can download this from below

Download Project Server 2013 September 2014 CU

 

The KB articles for September CU are available at the following locations:

Once the updated the downloaded you need to extract all the updates in 1 folder as shown below:

Now when you run the main setup file ubersrv.exe file, you will be able to extract and install the update:

 

 

 

Once you install these updates, you need to reboot the server

Now system needs to be restarted.

Follow the same steps on all SharePoint servers in farm.

SharePoint PSconfig wizard on all servers.

Finally it is installed

Note : SharePoint Server 2013 update contains the SharePoint Foundation update.Where as SharePoint Server 2013 with Project Server update contains Project Server update, SharePoint Server update and SharePoint Foundation update.
